Youth Group to Host “Restaurant Night” to Raise Funds for Orphans in Uganda

February 2009
by Cregan Cooke

Every year New York City chefs stir up special three-course prix-fix menus for Winter Restaurant Week. Inspired by this annual NYC event, Redeemer’s Youth Ministry will host a “Redeemer Restaurant Night” on Saturday, March 7. All proceeds raised from this event will go towards providing lunch to approximately 100 students and teachers three times a week for one year at The AIDS Orphans Support Trust (TAOST) school in Jinja, Uganda. Our youth ministry’s relationship with TAOST began in August, 2008, when eight students and five leaders from Redeemer worked with the school for the first time leading VBS, teaching English, and building relationships with their students and teachers. Most of these students eat little or nothing for lunch each day.
Since the planning stages of this past summer’s trip it has been the youth group’s intent to maintain a long-term relationship with TAOST, and to provide for the students’ and teachers’ ongoing needs. In December, youth group families and leaders helped to clothe 83 TAOST students by raising over $3000 for new school uniforms (including shoes and socks). In our effort to follow Jesus’ command to clothe the needy, and feed the hungry (Matthew 25:40), the youth group invites you to help us provide food for our dear friends in Uganda by joining us on March 7.
“Restaurant Night” will be led by our youth group students and leaders who will prepare and serve a three-course meal (including a choice of appetizers, main entrées and side dishes, and dessert with coffee or tea). There will be live music and information about opportunities to help our friends in Uganda. Reservations are required.
