"Race, the Bible and the Christian Life": A Conservation with Dr. Michael O. Emerson, co-author of Divided by Faith

January 25, 2021 from 7:30 pm - 9:00 pm

How is it possible that the church remains one of the most racially segregated spaces in America?

Join us on Monday, January 25th for our next conversation on "Race, the Bible, and the Christian Life" featuring Dr. Michael O. Emerson, the principal investigator of the largest study on race and religion ever conducted in the United States. In his book, Divided by Faith, Dr. Emerson examines how evangelicals, despite possessing a desire for racial reconciliation, actually re-create racial divisions and inequalities they ostensibly oppose. Dr. Emerson will help us explore what contributes to today’s racialized society, a society wherein race matters profoundly for differences in life experiences, life opportunities, and social relationships. He will also shed light on some of the beliefs that have historically hindered evangelicals’ ability to effectively address racism and suggest helpful paths forward.
