Understanding the Prophets

February 01, 2026 from 9:00 am - 10:15 am

The 17 prophetic books of the Old Testament constitute an important part of Scripture. The prophets brought God’s word to his people, reminding them of his covenant, calling them to repentance, instilling them with hope, and informing them of God’s plans for the world. Their words are cited or alluded to hundreds of times in the New Testament and continue to speak to people’s needs today. Yet the writings of the Hebrew prophets can be difficult to understand. In this seminar, East Side member Bram van den Heuvel, a doctoral student in Old Testament studies, will introduce us to the writings of the Hebrew prophets and give us practical pointers on how to understand their works.
